Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDEREK RALPH QUILL Derek crossed over unexpectedly to the spirit world on Friday, March 7, 2008 at his residence. Derek Ralph was born July 14, 1969 in Birtle, MB. He was raised in Sapotaweyak, Winnipeg, Dauphin, Wheatlands and Fort Alex and was educated in Pelican Rapids, Dauphin, Rivers, Pine Falls, Prince Albert and Cranberry Portage, where he graduated from in 1988. Derek started off a jack of all trades. Beginning at Keewatin Community College in The Pas, he graduated in Auto Mechanics in 1992. That being too greasy, he attended Herzing College - Business Information System (1994). He then became a Health Director at Wuskwi Sipihk (1994-1995) and created the first Youth Gathering for Swampy Cree Tribal Council. In 1997, Derek attended Robertson College - Multimedia Computer (where he had to teach his teacher!) Once he was introduced to computers, Derek knew what his career would be. He worked for AMC for many years. He was very proud to have been a part of that organization and they became his other family. Derek and Eileen Becker were high school sweethearts, shared many years together and were blessed with two children, Branden and Amy. Left to cherish his memory are his son BJ, daughter Amy, Eileen, his mother Velma, father Eldon (Lana), summer mom Audrey Guiboche, brother Sheldon, sister-in-law Sandi, sisters Lorraine (Steven), Vanessa (Sheldon), Melanie (James), Lindsay (Peter), Melva and Sundance. Treasured nephews and nieces Donavan, Colton, Steven, Comrie, Tido (Owen), Ashley, Demi, Candi, Zoe, April, Cassandra, Rashel, Kaidence and Darci. Best friend Lawrence Abraham, uncles Ray Kematch and Murray Quill, aunt Florence Kematch as well as numerous cousins and many, many friends. Derek was predeceased by his grandmothers Rebecca Kematch and Mary Quill, uncles Seaford and Allan Kematch, Norman Audy, Bill and Walter Moore, and aunties Lillian Audy, Christina and Victoria Moore. Funeral service is planned for Thursday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. Confirmation and details will be posted in tomorrow's edition. Pallbearers, Lawrence Abraham, Nelson Genaille, Roger Carrierie, Charles Cochrane, Daryl Flett, Matthew Traverse, Nathan Kematch. All Derek's friends are to consider themselves honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Aboriginal Diabetes Association, in memory of Derek Quill, in care of Sheldon and Sandi Quill.
