POTENCIANA OLANDESCA AGAPITO Our beloved Mommy, POTENCIANA AGAPITO (Sonja) peacefully slipped into eternal life on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at home, surrounded by family and friends, at the age of 93. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bert, Perla, Phoebe (Alex), Linnea (Norberto), Ruel (Edna), Rey (Rose), her 22 grandchildren and her many great-grandchildren. Sonja was predeceased by her husband Mariano, her son-in-law (Perla's husband), her daughter-in-law (Delia), and her best friend and balae Annie. Sonja was born in the Philippines and worked as a music teacher. She arrived in Canada in 1973 where she made lasting friendships. Sonja had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She loved getting together with her mah-jong and tongits barkada', challenging her children and grandchildren to a game of Scrabble or Boggle, but only if it didn't interfere with All My Children'. Sonja's love for music continued long after she finished teaching. She was often seen on the dance floor at parties and always initiated singing Christmas carols after Christmas dinner, usually acting as the conductor to her favourite song Whispering Hope' with great aplomb. Her greatest joy, however, was watching her grandchildren grow up and meeting her great-grandchildren. Mommy always ended her day praying the Rosary with her family. The family would like to thank Dr. Balcha, the Home Care staff, Sue Erickson and Karen Lake, the Palliative Care staff, Brenda Hearson, Mary Ashroft, for their kindness and compassion, nurses, Monique, Kate, Linda, Rachel and Corrine for their home visits and emotional support, Mommy's adopted girls' (Celia, Perci, Joy, Jophie, Reneth and Christy) for looking after Mommy with such love, respect and compassion over and above their duty. To our extended families and friends in Canada and the Philippines, our thanks for your continued support. A prayer vigil will be held on Friday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 4588 Roblin Blvd. The funeral Mass will be on Saturday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m., also at Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Father Barry Schoonbaert.
