Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySR. CAROL (MODESTA) WILGOSH, O.S.B. Sr. Carol Wilgosh died peacefully following a stroke at St. Joseph's Residence on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. She was in her 68th year of monastic profession. Sr. Carol was born on October 17, 1917 in Dobrowody, Saskatchewan to Theophilia (Sliwa) and William (Bill) Wilgosh who had emigrated from Poland and settled on a farm in Dobrowody. Sr. Carol was the sixth of nine children, three of whom died in infancy. Sr. Carol entered the Sisters of St. Benedict in Arborg, Manitoba on August 27, 1938 and made her monastic profession on August 27, 1940. She was totally committed to Religious Life, cherished her vocation, and had unwavering trust in God. She was very devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary to whom she claimed she had belonged from the day of her birth. Sr. Carol was a model of faithfulness to Community prayers and had a great love for scripture and the rosary. She was a very strong willed and determined woman who struggled to remain independent even when confined to a wheelchair for the last 14 years due to hip and knee problems. She loved the outdoors. Her fondness for gardening continued throughout her life and she even arranged to have a flowerbed made along the balcony overlooking the main entrance of the Monastery. Here she faithfully tended her flowers and patio tomatoes until last September when she suffered a major stroke. During her many years of monastic life she ministered mainly in food service or laundry at the Motherhouse in Arborg, the old St. Paul's College on Ellice Avenue, Camp Morton, Johnson Memorial and Sacred Heart Hospitals in Gimli and Russell, Dog Creek and the Pritchard Avenue Convent. Sr. Carol was predeceased by her parents William and Theophilia (Sliwa) Wilgosh, and all her siblings, Nellie Barteski, Mary Yunick, Helen Zelisny, John, Mike, Eddie, Emily and Albert. She is survived by her Religious Community, her faithful cousins, Elsie and Robert Fulawka, sister-in-law Olga (John) Wilgosh, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and special friend Carolina Meseric and daughter Stephanie and children. The Vigil Service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Benedict's Monastery Chapel, presided by Sr. Irene Burzynski, Prioress. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. presided by Msgr. Louis McCloskey at St. Benedict's Chapel with interment following in the Monastery cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Sr. Carol's memory to St. Benedict's Foundation, 225 Masters Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R4A 2A1. The Sisters wish to express their gratitude to Dr. B. Gorski and the staffs of St. Benedict's Health Centre and St. Joseph's Residence for their loving care and support of Sr. Carol. May she rest in peace. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
