Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANICE LOUISE STEEVES (nee ROBERTSON) Janice Louise Steeves (Robertson) was called to heaven on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Within the comfort of her own home, in the loving arms of her husband Gord and surrounded by family that loved and cherished her; Janice, (Jan, Jannie) passed away after a courageous and inspiring battle with Ovarian Cancer. Jan lived her life with passion and commitment, choosing her own way and time for every detail. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Millie and Allister Ross of Melita and Bing and Russell Robertson of McCreary, Uncle Jack Ross, father-in-law Dudley Steeves, as well as granddaughter baby Hope. In addition to her high school sweetheart, husband Gord, she is survived by her three sons, Randy (Kim), grandson Brodie; Michael (Shannon), grandson Hunter; T.J. (Christina); Mother and Father Barb and Boyd Robertson; sister Cheryl (Bill) McMahon; brother Ian (Susan) Robertson, nieces, Kelly and Dyan and nephews, Neil, Blair and Rian. On the Steeves side Janice is survived by mother-in-law Ruth Steeves, sisters-in-law, Barb and Audrey (Kevin) O'Neil, nephew and niece Greg and Leanne, all of Edmonton. Janice always said she was lucky to have many aunts and uncles and cousins who were all very close and she cherished their love and visits. Janice was born in Fort William, Ontario on January 31, 1959. After a move to Winnipeg, it was in Great Falls, Montana, where she started school, before moving back to Winnipeg. It was then on to Montreal and subsequently to Halifax where she graduated from High School. She then returned to Montreal to begin studying at McGill University. Jan and Gord were married 30 years ago and they then began their own cross Canada journey, moving from Montreal to Ottawa to Regina, then Saskatoon, Regina, Kelowna, Winnipeg, Regina and finally back again to Winnipeg. In each port of call Janice quickly became involved in various careers, yet always found time to be so very much a part of the Community and the many activities of her three active sons, who made her so proud. There are not many hockey rinks in Saskatchewan that she has not been in and yet she still found time to be Mrs. Everything for the Regina Lions Band, which allowed all her sons to become competent musicians and led to many trips throughout North America. In her spare time Janice carved out her own sidelines , as a Banker, Real Estate Agent and lastly a very busy Mortgage Broker in Winnipeg. Janice's ultimate accomplishment however, came with the birth of her Grandchildren. Jan loved her weekends and vacations at the cabin at Clear Lake and with her extended family spent every available moment on the water, golfing or at the cook shack. During the past two years Jan and her family became very involved with a golf course and cottage development in the Clear Lake Area. Jan was so looking forward to the opening of the Poplar Ridge Golf Course. Jan enjoyed the many friends she met while curling and the love of the sport led her to be actively involved in the organization of the 2006 Brier in Regina as well as being the Chair of the pre-draw entertainment of the current Brier being held in Winnipeg. Her diagnosis in August forced her to relinquish these duties, however Gord ensured she heard the piper piping in the players of the opening draw. Jan's active involvement in the community resulted in her organizing more charity golf tournaments than any of us can remember. Nobody came close to her record 50/50 sales at her boys' hockey tournaments. One of God's most caring and active people on earth has succumbed to Ovarian Cancer. The Good Lord could see she was getting tired and as a cure was not to be; he wrapped his arms around her and whispered, Come with me . Words alone cannot express our heartfelt thanks to the Nursing Staff of Unit 3B, St. Boniface General Hospital. Alex and her staff went above and beyond the call of duty as did sister-in-law Barb Steeves, R.N., sister Cheryl and brother Ian who provided the love and 24 hour care that allowed Janice to spend her last few days at home. Drs. Lotocki, Popowich and Dean are very special people and how can we forget Katy at the Cancer Clinic with whom Jan formed a special friendship over the past few months. God bless you all. A celebration of Janice's life will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations in Janice's name can be made to the Terry Fox Foundation, 543 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 3L4 THOMSON IN THE PARK FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY www.thomsoninthepark.com 204-925-1120 Life stories may be shared with friends and family across the globe at www.mem.com
