MARIA WALL On March 13, 2008 our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maria Wall, passed away peacefully with her children by her side at Bethania Personal Care Home. Maria was born on November 30, 1922 in Grigorjewska, Russia to Jahann and Katarina Baerg. In 1925 at the age of three, Maria, together with her parents and two sisters, Anna at five years of age and Margareta at one year of age, fled the political unrest in Russia and arrived in Durango, Mexico where they lived until 1938. From Durango they relocated to Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua where Maria finished her education and began working as a sales clerk at the Mercantil de Cuauhtémoc for David Redekop until 1953. On September 22, 1953 Maria together with her mother, sister Margareta and son Eric immigrated to Canada. They arrived in Winnipeg and Maria began her employment with Bethania Personal Care Home in Middlechurch for two years. After this Maria pursued a number of other employment opportunities until her retirement in 1987 at the age of 65. Maria loved her family dearly and made many sacrifices for them. She will be fondly remembered by her three children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Maria was predeceased by her husband Jakob, her mother and father Johann and Katarina, sisters, Lena, Anna (Johann), Susan (Albert) and brother John (Elisa). Left to mourn her passing are her two sons, Eric (Carol) and Ray (Candace), daughter Kristen (Ryan), sister Margareta and brother Jake (Janette); grandchildren, James (Melisa), David (Michelle), Colton and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Caleb, Leah and McKenzie. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Loepp, the nurses and personal care staff and also the kitchen staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for the very kind and compassionate care not only our mother but also we as visiting family members always received. A few provided not only compassion and support but their friendship as well. We will never forget you. Funeral service will be held Monday, March 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, with interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethania Personal Care Home. 2146 Main Street 339-5555
