LEOLA MARGUERITE FREDERICKSON (nee JOHNSTON) July 11, 1920 March 3, 2008 Peacefully, in the early morning, on Monday, March 3, 2008, Leola Frederickson passed away at the Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, BC. She was 87. Her family was with her to the end and we will forever try to carry on her legacy. Her friends all knew her as Lola, and everyone knew she was special. Lola was a free-spirited fighter, with an entrepreneurial drive as big as her heart, and a love for her family that was even bigger, which she proved every day of her life. She is sadly missed by her sons, Ron and Dave, grandson Colin, daughter-in-law Maureen, special friends, Cheryl, Marg and Josephine, sisters-in-law, Margaret, Juanita, and Betty, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and especially her friends from Fountain House in Winnipeg and Rose Bank in Victoria. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Margaret Johnston, and her brothers, Norman and Clifton. Lola was loved by everyone who knew her. Lola was born on her parents' homestead, a short way north of Maymont, Saskatchewan, where she learned the values of family and hard work from childhood. Lola left the farm for work in North Battleford, and moved later to Saskatoon and Prince Albert. There she met and married Albert Frederickson in 1950. They had two sons, Dave in 1951 and Ron in 1954. Lola started her career in the claims department at the C.N.R. in Edmonton, and she remained in the insurance claim business through her career. She worked in the insurance claims department at Armstrong and Taylor Insurance in Winnipeg for many years, and later started her own construction company to repair insurance claims. She was a tireless worker, always pursuing her dreams. Ron and Dave were very lucky to be able to spend so much time with their mother, working, playing, laughing and sharing our lives together. Lola loved to curl, golf, travel and socialize with her friends. She was able to travel to the Caribbean and South America, but her first love was Las Vegas. She loved staying in the hardcore downtown area and visited there often with her friends Alf and Marg. After retiring from the construction industry, Lola spent her time reading, walking, golfing and spending time with her friends both in Winnipeg and in Victoria. One of her very favourite pastimes was watching Colin play hockey. When her sons moved to Victoria in 2005, she moved to Rose Bank in Victoria to be near them. She loved living with all her friends there and had fun every night. We are very grateful for the kindness shown to her by everyone. Lola was able to smile and show the love in her eyes to the end. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their tender care for her. Lola did not wish to have a service. The family will spread her ashes in the ocean at Victoria, as per her wishes. Those who wish may make a donation in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of British Columbia or Manitoba, or the charity of their choice. We all loved you. Please rest peacefully.
