REGINA FRANCES DAGDICK (nee HEILAND) May 4, 1914 - March 13, 2008 With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, in the loving arms of her family at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Mom, the eldest of 13 children, was born in Winnipeg, and except for a short time in Saskatchewan, spent her life here. After moving back to Winnipeg in her late teens she worked briefly doing contract cleaning for local families. In 1939 she joined the staff of Perth's Cleaners where she retired in 1975 as Evening Laundry Supervisor after more than 35 years of devoted service. Mom was also was instrumental in the establishment of laundry services at the Winnipeg Inn Hotel (Fairmont) and eventually retired from there in 1979. She married Elias in May of 1944 and together they raised three children; Sharon, Linda and George. Mom enjoyed crossword puzzles, a good novel, crocheting, knitting, and rug-hooking. Playing cards with her family was something she especially enjoyed. Even in the last weeks of life she looked forward to a game. Mom possessed a talent for writing and poetry, and a sense of humour seldom seen in someone her age. Family was the most important thing to her though, and she always insisted that we did have those times together. She was predeceased by husband Elias; parents, George and Katherine; son-in-law Peter and daughter Sharon Nowicki; as well as brothers, Frederick, George and Andrew; sisters, Barbara, Eleanor, Rosemary, Elizabeth, and Doreen. She will be sadly missed by daughter Linda (Roger); son George (Doreen); grandchildren, Tracy (Derrick), Kristi (Steve), Kerry (Terry), Bryan (Elise), Nadine (Dwayne), Marshall (Lei) and great-grandchildren, Shawn, Kevin (Debbie), Alix, Hannah, Jonah, and Ella; brothers, Fred, Richard and Gordon; sister Alice Zdril and sisters-in-law, Cecilia Majdell and Eileen Heiland as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. It was mom's wish to remain in the family home of 55 years, and through the assistance of family, kind neighbours, and the great staff of Home Care she was able to live her dream. We would like to extend our thanks to Uncle Fred for his many years of devotion and caring for mom. Words cannot express our gratitude to Vicki and Doug Macfadden, very special neighbours and friends, for their love and support. Thank you also to the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital, Emergency Department, and 5th floor Unit 1 and 2, for their kindness and dedicated care to mom during her hospitalization. Thank you to Dr. F. Sikora for his many years attending mom and to Dr. J. Moncek who ensured mom was well cared for during her brief hospital stay. Regina was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Remembrances of mom may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
