MABEL CHEATER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Aunt and Cousin Mabel Cheater. Mabel's parents came from Lymington England in 1910 and Mabel was born March 4, 1913 in Winnipeg. Mabel worked for her Uncle Donald MacLeod at his shoe stores on Portage Avenue, then worked for the Manitoba Government for 20 years in the Finance Department. Mabel was an avid golfer and a great contract bridge enthusiast. She was one of the first two women in Manitoba to receive her RIA Degree i.e. Registered Industrial Accountants. For many years she valiantly battled lung disease. She had a great sense of humor, lots of determination and these carried her through difficult times. She leaves her family of Dorothy Doran (nee MacLeod), cousin Bill Doran (Liana) and children Lindsay Wilms (Randy), Steven Doran and Sean Doran. Cousin Gordon Doran (Robin) and children Ryan and James Doran. In England, her cousin Douglas Linney (Dorothy) and children Sue and John. The family wish to express their thanks for the wonderful care Mabel received at the Deer Lodge Centre from Kim, Gloria and all the many nurses and others who were so gentle and kind. At Mabel's request there will be a graveside service Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Garden, 4000 Portage Avenue. Donations may be made to Manitoba Lung Association. 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg Manitoba R3A 1P6. Life stories may be shared by family and friends across the globe at www.mem.com.
