WILLIAM NEIL (CHICK) EDIE May 8, 1930 - March 23, 2008 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend, Neil, on Sunday March 23, 2008, with his son Scott by his side. Neil is survived by his children, Cindy, Robert, Tamara, Laurie and Scott, and also by Eva and Frankie. He was predeceased by his father William and his mother Janet. Neil will be missed by the Hudson families, his friends at Evergreen Lodge and many neighbours in the Dugald community. Neil was born and spent most of his life in Springfield. Neil was educated in a one-room schoolhouse and as a young man enjoyed working with his father on the farm. Neil had many jobs throughout his lifetime. Owning many small businesses, from car lots, to restaurants and owning and operating his own heavy equipment. Neil spent much time working and building roads in the north, where he made many friends. He took pride in his mechanical abilities, and also enjoyed working and was a dedicated employee with the Coutu family in Winnipeg for many years. Later in life Neil returned home to work side by side with his lifelong friend Murray. Together they would take pride in the lawns and gardens they took care of and looked forward to a good snowfall so they could complain about the snow they had to clear. Neil could liven up any event with his guitar and when he moved into Evergreen Lodge in Dugald he enjoyed playing with many of his friends, entertaining at functions at the home and also throughout the community. We will all miss his famous rendition of the Laughing Song . A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, in Neil's memory, P.O. Box 2248, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4A6. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO.
