JAMES (JIM) SMITH After a hard fought battle with a lengthy illness we regret to announce the death of our Father, Grandfather, Partner, and Friend. Jim left us late Tuesday morning on March 25, 2008 with his family by his side. Jim will be remembered and sadly missed by his children, Lindsay, Colin and Carey Smith; his partner, Edith Krause; his stepchildren, Krista and Justin Skolesky, and Tim Hodge; grandson Cayden Hodge, and brother Arthur Scott. He was predeceased by his parents (Euphemia Macalaster and James Smith) and brother and sister-in-law (Billy and Georgie Scott). Jim was born on September 19, 1947 in Edinburgh, Scotland. From an early age his life was an adventure; his ever changing careers showed him the world from Northern Quebec to Japan. He never stayed in one place for long until finally he settled in southern Manitoba and planted his roots, a true Scotsman to the end he never officially became a Canadian citizen. His success in the alarm industry eventually led to him starting his own company, SmithTronic Alarms, which had many customers in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. After being diagnosed with Multiple Systems Atrophy his health slowly deteriorated but his will to live never wavered, up until the day before his death he was still checking his stocks and keeping on top of world affairs. We will miss you so much. Our family would like to thank the staff at St. Adolphe Nursing Home for their kindness and care. Memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 29, at Glenlea Mennonite Church, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, Research Department, 171 Donald St., Suite 302, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4. How I wish, how I wish you were here. - Pink Floyd Arrangements by Birchwood Funeral Chapel 1-204-346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030
