DOROTHY YATES GOLDBERG Dorothy Goldberg, fondly known to all as Dodo , passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2008 at Grace Hospital. She was 92 years old. She will be lovingly remembered by daughter Terri and partner Morley, her three granddaughters: Ronda (David), Shari (Howard) and Debra (Daniel), and her six great-grandchildren: Max, Jona, Sam, Jori, Abby and Sofie, her sister Ruth and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Tamara and David Morganstern, sisters: Gertie, Sadie, Libby, brother, Kenny, and husbands, David Yates and Gabriel Goldberg. Dorothy was born on August 19, 1915, the fourth of six children. She learned about the bonds of family, strength and independence at a very young age when she cared for her younger two siblings, Ken and Ruth. She was a very determined woman who learned to drive and wear trousers in an era when women didn't do that. Dodo had an intense love of and appreciation for nature. Her two homes in Gimli and Miami Beach sat on the water where she spent many hours listening to the sounds of the waves and taking in the beauty around her. Dodo was also an exceptional craftswoman. Her handiwork adorns many a wall and her Dodo socks are famous across the country. She proudly passed on her many talents to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dodo was feisty, passionate, obstinate, creative, determined, fearless, charming, demanding and compassionate, to name a few of her traits. She will not easily be forgotten. The family would like to thank the Grace Hospital second floor Orthopedic staff for the compassion and excellent care given to Dorothy. A very special thank you to Dr. Martin and Dr. Barber who made her last weeks comfortable. And to Dodo's angel , Esther, we take great comfort in knowing that you were with her in her last moments and in how much you loved her. Funeral services were held Monday, March 24 at Etz Chayim Synagogue. Pallbearers were her grandchildren Ronda and David Erenberg, Shari and Howard Goldberg, Debra and Daniel Goldman, great-grandson Max Erenberg and great-nephew Dom Mendeglio. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Kalef, Estelle Rosenberg and Earl Golden. If friends so desire donations can be made to the Dorothy and Gabriel Goldberg Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
