ISAAK (IKE) WARDEKKER December 17, 1923 March 25, 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Ike Wardekker, on March 25, 2008 at the age of 84. He will be missed by his wife Wilhelmina (Willy) Wardekker, of 61 years; sons, Isaak Jr. (Susan), Bill (Kathy), Ray (Joanne); daughter Betty-Ann (Enzo) Gigliotti; grandchildren, Robert, Tina, Deanna and Bennet Gigliotti, Amanda (nee Wardekker) (Mike) Shawcross, Megan (Jason) Meilleur-Wardekker; step-grandchildren Cory, Brad (Robyn), and Tim Connell and step-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Acadia and Nickolas. Dad was born on December 17, 1923, in Hilversum, Netherlands, where he grew up and was educated. Dad and Mom immigrated to Canada in 1953 to start a new life in Winnipeg. Dad loved the outdoors and we spent many summers travelling and finding new campgrounds and fishing spots in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Dad loved woodworking. He built much of the furniture at home, taking pride in the craftsmanship in each piece. He also built a camper trailer for the family and a plywood canoe for Mom and the dog. When time permitted Dad enjoyed his hobby farm in East Selkirk. There he met his challenges and spent many hours repairing his equipment. Most of it worked better than it did from the factory. In their retirement years, Dad and Mom travelled to and from the Netherlands visiting and reminiscing about the good old days. They also enjoyed their winter vacations. As his health began to deteriorate Dad and Mom spent time closer to home, still doing some fishing with the boys, going on day trips, reading a book or two, planting a garden, and generally just enjoying life. He was a great husband, dad and grandfather, and will be sadly missed. Heartfelt thanks to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedics, First Responders. Thanks to the Emergency Room staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their speed, skill, kindness and consideration. As well, thank you to the staff in the Hemo-Dialysis unit where, for the past year, Dad spent three days a week. Private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation. 2146 Main Street 339-5555
