Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER MATWICHUK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex, aged 84, on Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Riverview Health Centre. He will be greatly missed by his wife Lillian, children Gail Matwichuk, Gary Matwichuk and Laura Malchy, son-in-law Brian Malchy, brother John Matthews, sisters Sonja Singleton and Zena Whitlum, numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Born to the parents Nicholas Matwijchuk and Katie Kusey, Alex and family moved from St. Martin to Winnipeg in the late 1930s. He joined the Naval Forces of Canada in 1943 and served until 1946 when he returned to meet and marry Lillian Savage on June 25, 1949. Together they lovingly raised three children in the St. Vital area and spent many happy years at Red Rock Lake in the Whiteshell. He spent 28 years working for the Health Sciences Centre, retiring in the late 1980s from his position as Director of Plant Maintenance. In the years that followed he enjoyed cottage life, family, his dog Bailey and many rounds of golf. A memorial service will be held in his honour on Friday, April 4, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Alex's name to Friends Fundraising for Animal Shelters, 1 Westmount Bay, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2J 1Y7.
