Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUGUSTUS (DOUG) CRATE August 18, 1925 - March 29, 2008 Surrounded by his family, it is with sadness we announce the passing of our Dad, brother, Grandpa and Great-grandpa at the Grace Hospice on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his six children, Mary-Anne Perry (Cliff), Douglas Jr. (Rose), Winnipeg, Barb Shapiro (Aron), David (Linda), Calgary, Alta., estranged daughters, Bonnie and Eleanor. He also leaves to cherish his memory 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, sisters, Mary Meyer, Winnipeg, Dorothy Dupuis (Bob), Rochester, Alta., as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his wife Peggy, both parents James and Annie Crate and daughters, Dorie and Jeannie, brothers, Alex Toby and George. Dad and Mom spent most of their married life in Weston where they raised their family. In January 2008 Dad had the privilege of moving to the Grace Hospice. Dad resided there until his passing where the Angels of Grace cared for him with kindness, laughter and most of all dignity. Dad had many jobs over the years but it was Doug's Furnace Cleaning which he and Peggy owned and operated together for many years that gave him the most pride, making many friends along the way. Dad loved to talk and loved to be around his family, whether it be fishing with his grandsons, or hunting and berry picking with his brother George. He also looked forward to his weekly casino outings with his granddaughter Barb. Dad also enjoyed his Saturday morning breakfasts and shopping trips with his son-in-law Cliff. Family gatherings were always a very special time for all of us. He always enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren. Grandpa/Papa, you will remain a part of us forever, thank you for the life lessons you gave to each and every one of us. Beyond the sunset, when day is done. Cremation has taken place (Cropo Funeral Chapel). A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3R5.
