She was predeceased by the love of her life, Clare in 1964 and also, by her brothers-in-law Lloyd Wiley, Ron McPhail and Arnold Alden. Eileen was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on May 19, 1923 to John and Alice Swift. She talked with fondest memories of her childhood, especially the time spent at Sleepy Hollow in Sherbrooke. In 1943, she joined the Canadian Army and it was during these war years that she met a handsome young sailor. When the war ended, she left her family in Quebec and moved to Manitoba to make a new home with Clare. They lived in Neepawa, Brandon and Lockport. When Clare died in 1964, she moved with her three young children back to Brandon. She went back to school to earn her grade 12 diploma and then to college for secretarial training. Upon graduation she worked for the Brandon Mental Health Centre until she retired at age 67. She was a proud member of the Army Navy Air Force Veterans in Canada Unit No. 10 and the Crocus Seniors Club in Brandon. She had many friends whom she missed when the time came for her to move to Beausejour. She loved playing shuffleboard, bowling, dancing, bingo and meat draws. Her last few years were spent at Stony Plains Lodge in Beausejour, MB. We thank the amazing staff at Stony Plains for their dedication and loving care. A special thank you to the staff at the Beausejour Hospital who made her last days peaceful and comfortable. Thank you also to Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Van Rensburg for their respectful and professional treatment of Eileen. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Eileen's life will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Army Navy Air Force Veterans Club at 31-14th Street in Brandon, MB. A private family interment will take place later this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or the Manitoba Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.
