DIANE (DONI) FEDOROWICH (nee KUPCHUK) 1914 2008 In the arms of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Diane peacefully passed away at Concordia Hospital on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the age of 93 years young. Mom (Nanny) will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, daughters Sharon (Jim), Joan and son Jimmy (Carolyn), her grandchildren Colleen (Terry), Grant (Vianna) and Christine (Mike); great-grandchildren Mandy Lea (Kevin), Michael (Sarah), Evan, Kira, Dawson and Landon. Diane will also be missed by many other family and friends. Mom will be greeted in heaven by her God; her parents Stephen and Lena, her loving husband Peter, her four brothers and sister, and her son-in-law Tom. Mom was born April 21, 1914 on a homestead in Rosevear, Alberta and later moved to Transcona where she lived until her passing. She spoke fondly of her birthplace and longed to return there. In her early years Mom lived with her parents, brothers and sister in a little white house on Melrose Avenue in Transcona, which her father built. She was raised with and passed onto her family the love of her Ukrainian tradition. She would recite many a story of her times growing up in that little house. Her first job was at Eaton's and it remained one of her favourite places to shop. She met and married Peter in February of 1941; they celebrated their 65th anniversary. Mom was a person of great faith, attending many services but her favourite were those at The Lighthouse Mission. She read her bible on a regular basis, so much so she would wear out the pages and went through several bibles. She loved to tell the stories of the bible and read her favourite scriptures, one of her favourite times was in the morning when her son Jimmy would be trying to eat his breakfast, he received daily bible readings. Nanny as she was affectionately called loved to sew on her manual foot peddled Singer sewing machine. She loved to cook for her family, making all the traditional Ukrainian meals. The holidays were her favourite time because the family would gather to make the foods they all loved. They will all remember fondly the smell of the sauerkraut fermenting in the oak barrel in the kitchen, or being greeted at the door with a perogy on a fork and her specialty a super duper milkshake. She loved to read, garden, play Bingo, listen and sing to music. She loved her trips to Grand Forks, Hawaii and Las Vegas. She loved to be around people, she loved to laugh and make people laugh, she just loved life. Mom loved animals, Butch, Prince, Snowwhite, Patches, Scooter, Tuffer, Tiger, Gizmo, Jessie, Ty and Maggie; she loved every one of them. But her greatest love was that of her family, her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was always with them and would move mountains for anyone of them. After Peter passed away her children took turns spending the night with her and took care of her on a daily basis, a daunting task to some but for them it was their great love to take care of someone so very precious. As she neared her end she kept up her strength, you see she was a fighter. She looked forward to her shopping and restaurant outings with her children as this gave her opportunities to meet and talk to people. Her smile was as beautiful as the day she was born. The family wishes to thank Mayvis and Joanne for all their caring and compassion which they showed towards Diane during the past two years. As Nanny had great faith we are comforted to know that since the Lord Jesus has taken her home she is in a better place, she is healthy and with family and that she will be waiting for us to arrive. We love you and miss you, our hearts break for you as we wait patiently until we meet again. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., immediately followed by a private family interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Diane's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
