HELEN YOUNG Peacefully, after a brief illness, Helen Young passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 73 years. Helen was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Donny, her parents Margaret and John, her sisters Betty and Donna, and her brother Pete. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Sue and Margaret, her brother Jake, as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen enjoyed her career with the Bank of Montreal which started at the Main Branch in Winnipeg and took her to Manhattan, New York, and then to Calgary, where she retired. While in Calgary, Helen and Donny enjoyed the antics of her nephew David who lived with them. Helen met many great people throughout her employment at the Bay Downtown in Winnipeg and the Bank that she considered good friends such as Del, Kay, and Louise. Helen was an avid reader and liked discussions on current affairs, world politics, the Royal Family, and the challenge of the New York Times Crossword puzzle. She was also a proud member of the Liberal Party. In Helen's early years, she traveled extensively and never missed a Grey Cup. More recently, she traveled to Cuba, Hawaii, England, and took an Alaskan cruise with her sister Margaret and family. Helen experienced many good times with her dear friend Lorraine. Helen was blessed with many nieces and nephews as well as their children. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with Lori, Linda, Elaine, Wendy, and Marlene. Helen was a Great Great Auntie to Courtney and Kirsten and had a lovely time in Calgary with them this past summer, something they will never forget. She also treasured watching Steffani and Tori grow up and loved when they came for sleepovers. Steff and Tori will always fondly remember Helen as their Annie. The family would like to thank the staff of the palliative care Unit 3 East at the Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. The funeral service will be held at the John Black Memorial United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy., on Monday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. Following a reception at the church, interment of Helen's cremated remains will take place in the Morris Cemetery.
