ADELAIDE (ADDIE) ALVESTAD -
Date of Passing: Apr 02, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryADELAIDE (ADDIE) ALVESTAD 1916 - 2008 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Addie on April 2, 2008. She was not only special to her son Dennis (Betty) and daughter Sharon (Harry) but also to her grandchildren, Dennis Jr. (Linda), Michael (Dawn), Anne (Terry), Amber, Kira (Eric), great grandchildren, Joel, Leah, Emily and favorite nieces and nephews, Jim (Sheila), Bud (Arlene), Lynne, Patti, and Paul (Theresa) who survive her. Mom was predeceased by her husband Pete, brother DeMill, and sister Aileen. Mom could only be described as a true lady by all who knew her. Gentle of spirit and kind to all, she was an example to all of us. Even as the ravages of dementia attacked her physically, her true spirit shone forth. She was not only cared for, but truly loved by all the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge on Burrows who became her other family for the past 12 years. How can we ever thank you for cherishing her in the same way that her family did. Mom was born and raised in Carman where she met dad at age 15. She spied him across a dance floor and it was love at first sight. Mom moved to Winnipeg to attend Success Business College where she graduated with Highest Honors. She was very proud of her awards for oration in school and she was a born storyteller - embellishment was one of her strong points. After a 10-year courtship, she and dad married and began a life together that would last 53 years. Throughout this time, mom took great pride in nurturing her family and home which dad built for her in 1954. Cleaning was her specialty and when her son Dennis moved into the home 11 years ago, it looked as new as the day it was built. Mom and dad had an active life. They traveled extensively and mom loved her trailer at Falcon Lake. Fishing, bowling, card games with friends, golfing and curling were all activities mom participated in throughout her life. Trips to California and beyond with her nieces and nephews were a highlight. Mom had a passion for shopping. She could spend all day and not buy a thing but the experience alone was satisfying enough. We would be remiss if we did not mention the incredible bond and relationship that mom shared with her sister Aileen. Not a day passed that they did not speak to each other. They were truly soul sisters . A memorial service for family and close friends will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Rev. Earl Gould officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of choice. To mom: Out-the-door kisses make-it-all-better kisses butterfly kisses proud-of-you kisses sleep-tight kisses mommy's-here kisses welcome-home kisses good-luck kisses wipe-away-the-tears kisses no-reason-at-all kisses In our hearts, mom, we still have every one!
