PETER SAWCHUK Peacefully passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba at the age of 85. Peter is survived by his brother Bill (Jean) of Hamilton, ON, sister Pauline Prociuk of Burlington, ON, sister-in-law Katie Sawchuk of Cudworth, SK, many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Dokia, five brothers, John of Warren, MB, Steve of Ituna, SK, Fred of Lipton, SK, Metro of Grunthal, MB, George of Hamilton, ON and one sister Mary of Sarto, MB. Peter was born September 1, 1922 to parents Michael and Dokia on the family homestead in Sarto. Being the youngest in the family Peter took the responsibilities of taking over the family farm and providing care to his mother and sister Mary. In his earlier years he enjoyed farming until health issues with emphysema became apparent. Peter was forced to sell the farm and moved to Steinbach. Prayers will take place Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarto. The funeral service will be held, Friday, April 11, at 10:00 a.m. also at the St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiated by Father Gregory Zubacz. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers for the service are: Albert Sawchuk, Bob Allen, Peter York, Paul Petryk, Bill Bezditny and Peter Dyback. Peter's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Bethesda Hospital, care givers at Fernwood Place and Cedarwood Place for the excellent care. Peter will also be sorely missed and fondly remembered by his best friend Ann Loewen, who ministered to Peter with much kindness and care.
