TINA NIKITAS (KITASZ) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving daughter, sister, wife, granddaughter, niece, aunt, cousin and great friend on Wednesday, April 9, 2008. Tina lived a life full of love and laughter, but sadly lost a brave battle to cancer, and passed peacefully with her family and friends by her side. Tina was born on March 22, 1978 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She went to St. Charles Academy for elementary school, and then went to graduate from St. Mary's Academy (1996). Tina was a stellar student and received many awards and scholarships which helped her complete her Bachelor of Arts (2000). Tina went on to receive her Bachelor of Laws (2004) and finally completed her academic endeavors by graduating with a Bachelor of Education (2006). In addition to these accomplishments, Tina was privileged and honored to make many friends and acquaintances throughout her educational career. Tina enjoyed traveling, whether it was a back packing trip exploring Europe, or a weekend road trip, she was always up for a new adventure. Tina took many trips to Greece where she loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially in Arahova. Tina was very proud of her Greek culture, she was a true Spartan. Throughout her life, Tina excelled in sports and played soccer, hockey, rugby, basketball, ultimate, ringette and golf at various levels including representing Manitoba in hockey (Aces) and soccer (Team Manitoba). The Aces will always honor Tina as the only player to wear the #10 jersey. Her true passion was mentoring young athletes and coaching various athletic teams. Tina coached the Varsity View Falcons (female hockey), John Taylor Pipers (female soccer), and her beloved St. James Blues (female hockey). Tina enjoyed working as a Youth Leader at the Westdale Youth Action Centre. It was there that Tina planned programs, mentored and supervised the youth of the community. Tina was employed by the St. James Assiniboia School Division as a teacher at St. James Collegiate. As a True Jimmie she was a grade 9 and grade 11 teacher, who touched the lives of her students. Tina loved coaching the girls hockey team, and will always be remembered as Dynamite by her hockey girls. The hockey girls always put a smile on her face, and always made her proud, on and off the ice. Tina always cherished her time spent with the hockey girls. Tina will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Taras Kitasz, parents Parry and Eleni, siblings Anna and Angelo, grandfather Angelo, grandmother Anna, best friend Chera, as well as her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Tina will also be remembered by her many wonderful friends, teammates and players she coached throughout the years. Tina was predeceased by her Uncle Giorgos, Grandfather Kosta, and Grandmother Dina. Tina's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Krepart, Dr. Lotocki, Dr. Popowich and Dr. Dean at Cancer Care, Manitoba. Thank you to all of the nurses at the 5th Floor Nursing Station (WRS5). Thank you to all of the nurses and doctors at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her cousin, Dr. John Sarantopoulos (Texas) who helped Tina through her struggle. You will all be lovingly remembered for the great care, compassion and concern you showed Tina. Thank you for everything you did.
