R. ROSS SMITH Ross peacefully crossed into glory with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 10, 2008 at St. Boniface Hospital's Palliative Care Unit. Ross was born in Three Rivers, QC on July 28, 1930. Only beloved son of the late Fred Smith, Elsie (died in child birth) and step-mother Mae. Raised by his maternal grandmother Anne Anderson who encouraged education and manners. Ross is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 51 years, Dorothy, many caring cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Ross attended McGill University and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked at Shell Oil in Calgary for years where he met his jewel of Southern Alberta, Dorothy, a Shell Draftsman. After marriage in 1956 they moved to Palo Alto for Ross to achieve an MBA from Stanford University. Upon graduating he joined Home Oil back in Calgary. James Richardson and Sons drew them to Winnipeg for the last 40 years where he retired in 1993. Ross was a Christian who believed in doing the Lord's work and served in many Christian organizations. He was an extremely generous person especially with his time. He contributed to the community as president of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the CFL. A man of few words but their significance was appreciated by his involvement on the boards of Pan Canadian, Wawanesa and Richardson Greenshields Securities. He enjoyed his membership at St. Charles Golf Club and his eating group the Bakers Dozen. It is not good-bye Ross for we shall see you later. A memorial celebration of Ross's life will be held at Bethesda Church, 1350 Grant Ave., on Monday, April 14th, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Union Gospel Mission, PO Box 1073 Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2X4 or Providence College and Seminary, 10 College Crescent, Otterburne, MB R0A 1G0.
