GERTRUDES DA CONCEICAO Peacefully on April 9, 2008, with her family by her side, Gertrudes da Conceiçao passed away at the age of 93 years. She is survived by her daughters, Relinda Gonçalves, Maria Dias; grandchildren, Baldwin Gonçalves, Judite McLeod (James), Manuel Dias, Antonio Dias, Lisette Dias, Belina Dias; great-grandchildren, Carina McLeod, Johnathan McLeod, Laurana McLeod, and Christian Dias. She will also be remembered by many cousins and friends in Canada, Portugal, and France. She was predeceased by her daughter Idalina Maria Orfao, husband Manuel Joaquim Orfao, sons-in-law, Françisco Gonçalves and Antonio Dias. Gertrudes (Avo) immigrated to Canada in 1968 to join her family in Winnipeg. Avo worked at Victoria Leather and Rice Sportswear until long past the age of retirement. Avo enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family. She took pride in growing her two pound tomatoes and Portuguese cabbage for her famous Calde Verde. Her garden harvest lasted our family throughout the winter months! We all took pride in learning her many baking secrets for making Portuguese delicacies. Avo was a strong and independent woman planning her summer trips to Portugal up to the age of 88 to visit her family and friends. She was extremely generous with her gift giving from the heart to her family who she dearly cherished and protected. Avo openly offered advice to the younger generations who would come to her for wisdom, caring, and endless love. Your love and strong spirit Will be in our hearts Forever more. Adeus nossa querida flor. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Health Sciences Centre GD4, GD5, Emergency Department and In-house Home Care. Vigil prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Blessed John XXIII Parish. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at Blessed John XXIII, 3390 Portage Ave., with Monsignor Maurice Comeault presiding. Interment will take place in Vale da Serra, Torres Novas, Portugal. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
