BERNICE LONDON September 30, 1939 April 7, 2008 After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Bernice London on Monday, April 7, 2008 at the age of 68 years. Remaining to forever cherish Bernice's memory are her sisters Marjorie and Kay; and sisters-in-law Francis and Kay; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Dorothy; as well as siblings Bill, Ed, Dorothy and Evelyn. Born in Transcona on September 30, 1939, Bernice, from an early age was actively involved in sports. She participated in the competitive sports of softball and curling for many years. Bernice also helped to promote youth softball through coaching and umpiring. She had a great love for animals, particularly her dogs and attended several dog shows with her poodle. Even when she could no longer participate in sports she wanted to spend her days out of doors and was looking forward to spring and spending time walking the dog and going to Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre. Bernice was also an avid reader, spending many a day on her patio reading, and enjoyed watching sports. Bernice worked in several administrative positions throughout her career, and prior to retirement, worked for several years at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Division of M.P.I.C. Through work and sports she made many friends and cherished those friendships. Bernice took great pleasure in helping others and spent many an hour volunteering at Blood Donor Clinics and various sporting events. A private service has taken place. Special thanks to Dr. Pat Harris, and the nursing staff on the 5th floor of the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care during Bernice's final days. If so desired, donations in Bernice's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermott Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3 or the charity of one's choice. Bernice will be sadly missed by those whose lives she touched.
