RAYMOND ALBERT CARON Peacefully, on April 11, 2008 at the Grace Hospice, Raymond passed away at the age of 81. Dad was born December 28, 1926 at the family home in Charleswood to Xavier and Anna Caron. He was the seventh of nine children. He graduated from Charleswood Collegiate and in 1950 married Lorraine Lannoo. They bought property on Roblin Boulevard in Headingley where they raised their family and ran their business. Dad was a man who could build or repair anything. Nothing stumped him. He always found a way to make something work. When he started operating Ray Caron Construction and later Headingley Precast, he designed and built the forms that were used to manufacture septic tanks and water cisterns, as well as the hoists used on the delivery trucks and in the shop. Over the years he also built and designed the snowmobile Sno Hoss and enjoyed being crew chief for his son, Minty and daughter, Dowie during their racing years, as well as for Ian Corbett, world champion snowmobile racer. But Dad's first love was carpentry which included hand built coffee tables, cupboards and eventually, the family cottage at Lake Manitoba Narrows His work was always precise even though he always said I'm not building a piano!! In later years, he spent a lot of time at the Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club where he won many shooting competitions as well as repairing, designing, and building gun stocks, triggers and barrels for many of the members. For a few years, he was involved with CB radios and met many friends over the airwaves including mutual bird watchers where he received plans for his purple martin birdhouses. Dad's family was very important to him and he loved having everyone gather at the yard in Headingley. He enjoyed his grandchildren and was recently blessed with the arrival of his first two great-grandsons. He is survived by his children, Edlaine Hamill (Craig), Darlene (Barb Justice), Edmund (Cathie), and Michael; grandchildren, Megan Woytowich (Daryne), Gavin (Gina), and Robyn Walker and fiancé Derek Barry, and his great-grandsons, Carter Woytowich and Jackson Hamill. He is also survived by his sisters Berthe Caron m.o. and Pauline Hosaluk and brothers Aime, Louis (Isabel), and Gilles (Edith), sister-in-law Marcelle and brother-in-law Godfrey Taillieu as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Lorraine in 2004, twin babies Maurice and Marcia, his father and mother, sister Rita, brothers Marcel and Dennis, sisters-in-law Odile and Therese, and brother-in-law John Hosaluk. The family wishes to thank Dr. A. Mellon, Dr. N. MacEachern, and Dr. N. Ahmed and extends their gratitude for the wonderful care given to Dad from nurses Winona, Donna, Margaret, and Tiffany, nurses' aide, Jackie, and all the staff at the Grace Hospice. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba and/or the Grace Hospice. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
