ALICE LORRAINE PAWLUK October 24, 1934 April 11, 2008 Peacefully after a long illness with diabetes, Lorraine Pawluk, aged 73 years, of Lockport, Mb., passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital. Lorraine resided in Selkirk in the early part of her life. She completed her high school and went on to Success Business College in Winnipeg where she received her diploma in Typing AND Shorthand. She later taught typing at the Success College to large classes of people of all ages. Lorraine was later employed with the Bank of Montreal in Winnipeg where she became the secretary to the assistant manager. She also taught Sunday School in Selkirk. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 48 years, Alex; two sons Allan of Winnipeg and Gary (Carol) of Brandon; one brother Raymond Anderson (Joan) of Selkirk; one sister Ellen Heinrichs (Menno) of Syracuse, New York; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. She was predeceased by her brother Gordon in 1994, her parents Walter in 1980 and Alice in 1978, and a baby brother in 1943. Lorraine was a homemaker and her hobbies were many. Some of her fondest moments were spent at a sewing machine finishing off new creations which she had previously sketched. Somehow, between her household schedule and looking after the needs of her family, she found time to collect material to be sewn into clothes for her children and her self. She also sewed drapes and knitted slippers and rugs as well as crocheted wall pictures of floral designs. Later she was involved in oil and water painting which she thoroughly enjoyed. Lorraine was a fantastic cook and the dishes she made for her family and family gatherings were very much appreciated. Her artistic eye led her to detailed planning of her flower beds and garden, which she maintained with loving care throughout the summer. Lorraine was an intelligent, strong willed person, who loved all things cultural. Her interests were in people, their struggles, their triumphs and their joys. She loved to read and was eager to discuss various subjects. Her openness to new ideas and sincere non-judgemental thoughts were greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Dr. Habtu Demsas and Dr. Robert Zoppa and nurses at the Selkirk General Hospital and the nurses and staff at the Betel Home for their compassionate care and kindness during her illness. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, April 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk. The Rev. Fr. Oris Naherniak will officiate the funeral service which will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. also in the chapel with interment to follow in the Ukrainian Orthodox Churchyard in Gonor, MB. If friends and relatives so desire, donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Gonor, 6594 Henderson Hwy c/o Edward Pawluk, Box 19, Grp 326, RR 3, Selkirk R1A 2A8, or a charity of your choice.
