MARY HOLOWACHUK December 12, 1924 April 10, 2008 Peacefully on April 10, 2008, Mary (nee Shmon) Holowachuk left us to be with her Lord. She was predeceased by her husband Michael. She is survived by her daughter Lesia (David) Urbanowski, her son David (Patricia) Holowachuk; grandchildren Cindy Nakonechny, Jennifer Nakonechny Toews (Kelvin), Brock Holowachuk (Carolyn Ryan) and Colin Holowachuk (Malissa Gauthier); great-grandchildren Claire, Chase and Katelyn Holowachuk; three sisters Olive (Tony) Semchuk, Hazel Chute and Vicky Stebeliski, sister-in-laws Emily Shmon and Mary Holowachuk, brother-in-law Art (Margaret) Holowachuk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was born to Walter and Mary Shmon and raised in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, and spent her early years in the Parkland region. In 1944 she married Michael Holowachuk and they made their home in Pine River, where they raised their children Lesia and David. In 1967, Mary and Mike moved to Thompson where they worked as custodians for the School District of Mystery Lake for over 25 years before retiring. Mary made her home in Winnipeg for the last four years and took her greatest joys in spending time with her family. Mary carried herself with a quiet and humble strength. She valued her family above all else, and took her deepest happiness in the time she spent with them. Mary held a strong belief in the importance of treating all people with dignity and respect, and throughout her life she made time to listen and understand all of the people who came to know her. She faced life with strength, humility and purpose, and a deeply held sense of faith. Her proudest moments were in the growth and achievements of the family she raised and her extended family. Her legacy will be in the people who Mary touched through her patience, love, and compassion. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel.
