Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE (NASTASIA) MERENCHUK (ZUKIWSKY) August 15, 1919 - April 16, 2008 Suddenly, but peacefully at the age of 88 at Tudor Home in Selkirk, Mom left us to be with Dad. Predeceased by her parents and her husband John of 61 years in 2003 and brothers Mike, John, and a sister Jean (Pearl) of Alberta. Leaving to mourn her passing are her two daughters and their families. Zelda (Larry) Greenwood, Mary Ann (Bill) Appleby: grandchildren, Susanne (Brent) McDuff, Isobel Greenwood: great-grandchildren, Cody and Brittany Loane, Thomas and Elizabeth McDuff and brother-in-law George Bray. Mom was born near Andrew, Alberta and grew up on a farm where she also learned to stook and often said she could out stook her brothers. Among her many nieces and nephews growing up she was their favorite auntie. Mom and Dad met each other as pen pals and at the age of 23 John sent for her to come to Lavenham, Manitoba. After they were married in Brandon they farmed together side by side where they raised their two daughters. Everything being homemade from bread to Ukrainian cooking, crocheting, knitting, gardening, and immaculate flower beds. She also made yogurt from a starter long before it was available commercially. She milked cows and sold the cream, they raised chickens and then Elsie would clean eggs after a hard days work. She taught herself the art of craft dough making and gave them as gifts along with her handmade sweaters and doilies. Her daughters always had new home sown matching dresses for their annual Christmas concerts when they were younger. In later years they sold their farm and moved to the St. Andrews area in 1979. Shortly thereafter they bought property in California where they spent many winters until Elsie's health began to fail. They sold both properties and resided at Tudor Home in Selkirk. A special heartfelt thank you goes to the staff and volunteers at Tudor Home for Mom's excellent care and the love provided over the years. Flowers are lovingly declined, in Mom's memory if you so wish donations may be made to Tudor Home, 800 Manitoba Avenue, Selkirk, MB, RlA 2C9. A funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline St. on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery one mile south of the Ukrainian Cemetery on the Selkirk by-pass. I thank my Jesus and my faith in the Heavenly Father, who cares for me and loves me - Mom's niece Verna Evans. Was and still is with the Lord. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
