SAM DU It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Sam Du on April 16, 2008. Surrounded by his family and relatives, Dad passed away into peaceful rest after a courageous battle with cancer. Dad is predeceased by his parents, Lee Phuong Ying and Yu Tao Sung, his brothers Alexander and Chan, and numerous infant siblings. Dad is survived by his devoted wife Yue Di, and three children, Patricia (Quyen), Christina (Carey), and Tim (Suzanne). He also leaves to cherish his memory, his eight grandchildren whom he adored dearly; Christopher, Nicholas, Katherine, William, Corrine, Leanne, Michael and Erin. Dad is also survived by his brothers Albert, and Joseph. Dad graduated from medical school in Guangzhou, China in 1959. After graduation from medical school, dad became an associate professor of anatomy and physiology where he headed the dissection classes for medical and nursing students. Dad worked in various areas of medicine including internal medicine, infectious diseases, emergency, and community health. Dad was a strong advocate of education and was versed in five languages. Dad was employed at the Health Sciences Centre from 1981 till his retirement in 1995. Dad was a selfless and hardworking individual. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family. Dad had a fondness for gardening and keeping up with current events. He enjoyed working in his small garden and reading his newspapers and magazines. Dad also enjoyed exercising and took daily walks to Omands Creek. Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the friends and relatives who dropped by to visit dad and extend their well wishes. We would also like to thank Dr. Czaykowski and (nurse Denise), Dr. Schroeder, Dr. Ong, Dr. Saranchuk, (Nurse Shelley), and the H3 staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their care. Special thanks to nurse Wendy, Jacky, Vidian, Cindy and Joanna on H3 for their compassionate and dedicated care. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, with viewing at 1:00pm. Interment at Thomson In the Park Cemetery following the service.
