Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTANLEY SMOLINSKI 1914 - 2008 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Stanley Smolinski on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the Beausejour Hospital. Stanley is dearly missed by daughter Kathy and husband Gayard Fuerst, grandsons Brayden and Kelby Picard, also by wife Thelma (nee Varnes), her children Jim and Marlys Johnson, Mary (John) Hydomako, Audrey (Tony) Gmitroski, Ruth Neskar and their families. As well, Stanley will be fondly remembered by sister-in-law Toots Smoler of Whitehorse and an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews in the Ladywood/Selkirk area, the Arborg/Riverton district and in western and northern Canada. The last survivor of his immediate family, Stanley was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Mary (Wyhrysta); brothers, Frank, William, Charlie and Peter; sister Mary (in infancy) and sister-in-law Annie. Stanley lived his entire life in the Ladywood and Beausejour areas, farming, running a business and cutting wood well into his 80's. His energetic participation, support, coaching and competitive spirit was widely known in all manner of sports. From boxing and baseball in his earlier years, to ringette coaching in the 1970s and 1980s and more recently, cheering on his grandsons' hockey and lacrosse games, Stanley could always be depended upon to actively be part of the game. An avid reader for most of his life, Stanley's interests widely ranged from current affairs, politics, history to following the careers, growth and contact with family members. Coffee with Stanley was often an adventure of strongly held and expressed opinions on almost any topic or colourful story. Visitation for family and friends will take place at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22. A memorial gathering will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, also at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at the Sandhill Greek Orthodox Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in Stanley's name may be made to the Beausejour Early Years School Music Program or the Edward Schreyer School Sports Program, in care of Sunrise School Division, 75-5th Street, S., Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
