DAVID KLASSEN Peacefully on April 17, 2008, Dave passed away at his home. Dave was predeceased by his wife Susan and infant son, his parents, David and Mary and brothers, Edward, Isaac, Henry, Peter, and sister Tina. He is survived by his sons, Robert and wife Barbara, Larry and wife Debra, his brother Abe and wife Margaret, his grandchildren, Kristine (Paul) McQueen, Brenda (Wayne) Altomare, Debra Amos, Ryan Klassen, Jim Duff, Shane Klassen, Carly Klassen, Gerald LaFreniere and Ashleigh LaFreniere, his great-grandchildren, Drake Gerow, Alexandria Klassen, Tyler, Matthew and Brandon McQueen, Crystal Regier, Ashley Paterson, Auston and Bronwyn Green, and Megan and Jonathan Duff, great-great-grandchildren, Austin McQueen and Savannah Regier, and his many many nieces and nephews. Dave was also survived by his good friend Nettie Benzelock. David was born in Morris, Manitoba, attended Opawaka School in the Darlingford area, met Susan Ramsay and they married on October 11, 1941. Shortly afterward, Dave was shipped overseas with the Winnipeg Rifles and later was transferred to the R.C.E.M.E. Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. After the Second World War, Dave returned home and moved his family to British Columbia where he worked as a logger. Dave returned to Winnipeg with his family where he drove street cars, buses, worked construction, was a caretaker for the Municipality of Fort Garry and finally settled in a 25 year career as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Winnipeg. In retirement, Dave went on to win Gold Medals with the Manitoba Society of Seniors in the games of Floor Curling and Slowpitch. He was one of the founders of the 60 Plus Slowpitch league in South Winnipeg. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue (Aubrey Street entrance) at 1:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined, and should friends desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
