VERNA CHRISTINA McRORIE (BELL) We sadly announce the passing of our Mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend, Verna McRorie on April 15, 2008 in La Salle, MB. She is survived by her children Rhonda (Daniel) Borden, granddaughter Chelsea; Marla (Joe) Gross grandchildren Heidi (Scott) Abbott great-grandchildren Liam, Sinead, Kieran, Aneen; Jared (Kate) Gross great-grandchildren Ariel, Cedar, Layla, Hudson; Jordan (Katie) Gross great-grandchildren Mataya, Reuben, Naomi and Kaitlin (Justin) Hatt; Todd (Diane) McRorie granddaughters Cuyla, Hannah and Twylla Jayne (Brian) Conn grandchildren Lauren, Aidan and Bryce. She also leaves to mourn her siblings Evelyn Mason, Bernice Marshall, her twin sister Verla (Ellis) Bird, Keith (Jackie) Bell and Barb (Joe) Holmes as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends. She is predeceased by her son David Robert, her husband Murray McRorie; sisters Ruth DeGalan, Irene Bell; brothers Alvin, Bob Bell; sister in-law Orma Backhouse; brothers- in-law Frank Mason, Gordie Backhouse, Eddie Marshall and Ron Hayter. Verna was born in Beautiful Valley District, Oakville, RM of Portage la Prairie, MB on August 30, 1929 to Frank and Lily Bell and grew up in the farming district near Portage la Prairie. She taught school at East Prospect School, NE of Portage and at Rapid City. She married Murray McRorie in 1951 and they lived in Portage until 1964 when they moved to Brandon. Verna was a stay at home mom for several years and then she began a career in sales: Watkins, Tupperware, World Book and Yaegers Fur Coats as well as hostessing at the North Hill and working with Starch Research and Stats Canada doing Surveys. She also helped Dad with his real estate and construction business. Verna enjoyed her family and was always there to support her children in their endeavors. She was actively involved in her community center as well. She loved the Lord and exercised her gifts of encouragement, friendship and hospitality. We are thankful mom was able to stay at her daughter's, Marla and Joe's home in La Salle for the past six weeks. Mom, you will always be remembered for your wisdom, insights, quick humour, hospitality and especially your potato salad and matrimonial cake. We all love you and we will miss you! Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 20 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Omega Funeral Home in Portage. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the William Glesby Center, 11- 2nd Street NE in Portage. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice or take your family out for a meal together.
