STEPHEN W. GLOVER Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Stephen Glover on April 17, 2008 at Riverview Medical Centre, at the age of 83 years. He was born in Winnipeg and resided in St. James for 49 years. Remaining to forever cherish Steve's memory are his wife of nearly 60 years, Marianne; his daughters, Patricia, Karen (Langley, BC) with grandson Troy; his brother Walter (Mary), and sister-in-law Shirley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family. He was predeceased by his sister Olga and brother Bill. Stephen served in the Second World War with the Canadian Navy, escorting convoys across the North Atlantic. Soon after his service he returned to Winnipeg and married Marianne in 1948. They were married for 59 years. He worked for the City of Winnipeg, Survey Department for 36 years, retiring in 1985. Upon his retirement, he was able to indulge in his two favourite passions, golf and his artwork. Many days were spent enjoying a round of golf with his golfing pals as a member of the Assiniboine Golf Club. Steve was an Honorary Lifetime member of the St. James Art Club where he enjoyed many long-lasting friendships. His oil and watercolour paintings will continue to provide lasting enjoyment to many of his friends and family. From an early age, Steve excelled in woodworking, which included making his own tools, designing and building furniture. This skill was much appreciated by his daughters as he provided beautiful furniture for each in their own homes. Steve's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, St. James. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
