GORDON JACKSON HAIG
Date of Passing: Apr 15, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON JACKSON HAIG The family of Gordon Jackson Haig is sad to advise that Gordon died on April 15, 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand. Gordon was predeceased by his parents Graeme and Patsy Haig and leaves to mourn him, his sisters, Briony Haig, husband John Anderson and daughter Katie, sister Margot Haig, husband Harry Ethans and children, Alex, Taylor and Paula, sister Angela Haig, husband Mark Halsall and children Graeme and Claire, dear friend Barbara Kornstein of Berkeley, California, friend Ping of Bangkok and his Moore, Seed and Jackson relatives in Toronto. Gord was born and grew up in St. James, graduating from Silver Heights Collegiate. He attended the University of Manitoba and then went to Philadelphia for graduate school. Gord never again lived in Canada but was very proud of his Canadian heritage. Whenever he returned to Winnipeg, he was sure to include in his visit a trip to the Sals for a triple decker sandwich and a trip to the rink for a hockey game with friends and family. He had particularly fond memories of time spent at our family cottage at Matlock. He was a brilliant and intense man, who delighted in the company of his friends. He was by turns curious, ebullient, cerebral, irreverent and loved to sing off key. He will be missed. For the last five years, Gordon taught English at AUA school in Bangkok. He liked his work very much. He was learning Thai himself. Previously Gord had worked as a computer software creator for Wild Bryde, a Berkeley, California jewelry company, having taught himself software creation. He was a Mac user from day one. As a young man, Gord was the best gutter (eavestrough) man in San Francisco. Gord was a voracious reader, devouring many books per month, ranging from the heavyweights of English literature, scientific and political tomes to the blessed escape of science fiction. He had read the entire teen section in the St. James library by the time he was 14 years old. His love of books was lifelong and for this reason we would ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Winnipeg Library Foundation at 989-2060. A private family interment will be held at a future date, followed by a reception. A further notice will appear at that time.

Gordon was a wonderful man. I met him first in Thailand, then later in Berkeley. While we were both living in Bangkok he helped me out when I desperately needed it. I only discovered recently that he had died. He was one of a kind: warm, brilliant, and ever curious. No BS about Gordon. He had a great life, with many successes in many endeavors. It was an honor to know him. - Posted by: Anthony Young (Friend) on: Oct 05, 2015

Dear Gordon, You were on my mind all these years after we worked together, and I was saddened to find that you had died. We had many great times together and you were a good friend. Rest in peace, I am sorry I never got to see you again, you are gone too soon, Tracy - Posted by: Tracy Holzman (Owner Wild Bryde Jewelry) on: Sep 15, 2014

It's more than four years since you died, Gordon, and I just found your obituary in the Free Press. You were one of my closest friends. I can't believe you're gone. This is a wake-up call for yours truly. Methinks I would be wise to make the most of the time I have left. I hope you got your money's worth. - Posted by: Rich North (close friend) on: Aug 02, 2012

I cherish the memory of those great summers at Matlock when you and I fished all day, nearly every day, at the Salimoniac channel, riding our bikes there and back, singing all the way at the top of our voices. Our catch was usually two dozen Perch, one bass and lots of catfish (thrown back). Life just didn't get any better than that. I will miss you Gord. God bless.
