HELEN MADELINE BROCK It is with great sadness that Helen's family announces her passing on April 16, 2008, following a lengthy period of ill health. Helen was born in Winnipeg on March 16, 1941 and was the youngest child of Clifford Wallace Brock, Q.C. and Jessie Watson Brock. She was predeceased by her parents, by her sister Carol Sims and by her brother-in-law Joseph Shamess. Helen loved people and chose a profession for herself in which she could care for others. Following her earlier education at Norwood Collegiate and United College, she obtained her Diploma of Nursing from the Health Sciences Centre in 1963 and embarked upon a truly distinguished career. In 1972, she assumed responsibility for the Neurosurgery Theater of the Operating Room at the Health Sciences Centre, where she served as Head Nurse until 1995. Seeking a change of pace and a reason to experience life in other parts of the world, Helen chose to work the last few years prior to her retirement in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This provided her with an opportunity to travel widely throughout the Middle East and other parts of the world. In her last years, Helen faced numerous challenges to her health. She provided those close to her with a profound example of how to face the challenges of life with dignity and acceptance. She lived one day at a time and each and every day to the fullest. All those who were fortunate enough to know Helen were deeply enriched by the experience. She leaves to mourn her passing her sister Rosemary Shamess; her brother Donald Brock (Joanne) and her brother-in-law Grant Sims. Helen also holds a very special place in the hearts of all of her 11 nieces and nephews and her 11 grand-nieces and nephews. Auntie Helen to some, H.B. to others, she never missed a birthday or an opportunity to give or to help the many people she loved. We all love you, Helen, and are grateful for the gift of having had you in our lives. The family would like to express their gratitude to the various health care professionals for the care and support given to Helen during her last months which permitted her to maintain the independent life style she so treasured. A celebration of Helen's life and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue with entrance on Aubrey Street. May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind always be at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, And rains fall softly on your fields, And until we meet again, May God held you in the palm of His hand. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949 - 2200
