JANE ETHEL PACEY (nee EDWARDS) September 1, 1906 April 11, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Jane Ethel at the age of 101 years. Devoted mother, great-grandmother, grandmother, aunt, sister and cherished friend, she slipped away in her sleep to join her beloved Bob. Jane was born in Mountain Ash, Wales, to Lewis and Ethel Edwards, and was the eldest of three sisters and two brothers. The family emigrated to Canada in 1927 and after a short career in farming, in the Brandon area of Manitoba, they landed in Winnipeg. Jean, as she was also known, worked as a governess in Winnipeg where she met and married Bob Pacey in 1939. She joined the staff at the Veterans Affairs Hospital on Academy Road in 1947 and worked there until the hospital was closed in the late 1960's. After her husband's death she worked at Deer Lodge Hospital, in St. James, and raised her two boys by herself. In 1978 she retired and moved to Vancouver where she could be close to her children and grandchildren. Her passions were her children, grandchildren, knitting, painting, reading, golf, bowling and travel. She loved people and was always very active. Jane was predeceased by her loving husband Robert Pacey, in 1948, father Lewis and mother Ethel shortly after. She was also predeceased by brothers Stan and Reg and sister Lil. Jane is survived by her eldest son Michael and wife Effie and their family: daughter A.J. Benefield, with husband Daved and great- grandchildren Ty and Addison and son Robert, and wife Diane, all of Vancouver. Youngest son Richard, and wife Lee and their family: daughter Rhonda, and her daughter Rhiannon and son Liam Holme, and sons Shaun, and wife Tracy and their children Tevyn, Dylan and Sheridan, and youngest son Michael, and his wife Marnie. Jane is also survived by sister Doreen MacDonald, and husband Jack, of Winnipeg; nieces Barbara and Janice and nephews Terry and Bruce and families; sister Megan, and family, of Minnesota; nephews Ken, and wife Elanie, and Brian, and wife Pat, Narin and their families, nieces Joyce Cybulski, and husband Ed and family, and Doreen Johnson, and husband Norm and family, of Portland, Oregon. Michael and Richard would like to thank the angels at the Margaret Fulton Centre and the Kiwanis Care Centre , both in North Vancouver, for the devoted and loving care they showed to Jane during the last three and a half years of her life. They made such a big difference in the quality of our mother's life. In lieu of flowers, donations to either of these two groups would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be held at the home of Barb MacDonald and John Langstaff. Mom, your work here is done. Rest now in the arms of your one true love.
