JOHN MAZUR YOU'RE OUT! John Mazur, unexpectedly passed away at the Grace Hospital on Saturday, April 19, 2008. John leaves to cherish his memory his son, John (Carola Lis); daughter, Joanne Crowell (Ron); his precious grandchildren, Robyn Overwater (Doug), Gavin Crowell, Jesse and Henry Mazur; treasured great-grandchildren, Travis, Kennedy and Austin Overwater, Hayley and Logan Crowell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Min and Stan McLellan; sister-in-law Olly Sulipa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in March, 2007 by Josephine (Adolphina), his beloved wife of almost 63 years; parents John and Apaulina Mazur; brothers, Peter and Michael. John was born on June 24, 1917. He attended LaVerendrye, Earl Grey and Kelvin High School. He lived a fortunate life filled with family, friends and special times. To his final moments he never forgot where he came from. The years of the Great Depression left a lasting impression upon him. During the war years, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force for four years. On June 24, 1944, John married his gal , Josephine. They were very much a team throughout their life together. John worked for the Canadian National Railway before going to work for the Department of National Defence where he served for over 35 years before retiring. Passions included over 30 years of umpiring in the Industrial Fastball League. With Josephine, he was able to travel extensively through Canada, the States, Mexico, Cuba and many precious visits to family in Australia. He loved working in his gardens growing most vegetables and flowers known to mankind - simple pleasures. John was enthusiastic and good-humored, a decent, honest man. With the death of his beloved Josephine, he rose to the great challenge and was given the graces to persevere through these past 13 months with an inspiring resilience. We were very proud of him. He will truly be missed, he will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Firefighters Burn Fund. Heartfelt thanks go to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and the caring staff of Grace Hospital who eased him through his moments and who treated his family with such warmth. Also to Dr. L. Bartlett, who guided John through the years and thank you to his wonderful neighbors. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
