WILBERT (BILL) ERNEST KERNTOPH Peacefully on April 20, 2008, Wilbert (Bill) Ernest Kerntoph passed from our world into the heavenly realm. Bill was born on April 29, 1926 in Ashern, MB. Bill grew up a farm boy and went to Beaty School. In 1947, Bill married Joyce Hammersley, a teacher who was teaching at Beaty School. They lived a few years on the farm then moved to Ashern to #30 Second Avenue North where they lived until Joyce's death in 2005. Bill then moved into the First Choice Manor until March of 2008 when he moved into the Ashern Personal Care Home. Bill had many interests and many friends. He was an outdoors' man and enjoyed working with heavy equipment and gravelling roads. Fishing, hunting and snowmobiling were a few of his hobbies. Bill was a firefighter for many years, school bus driver, 4-H leader and Gun Safety Instructor. As a result of his involvement with these occupations, many children spent time learning from him and enjoying his company. Bill and Joyce owned and operated Robinson Store for 29 years. Bill was a well-known man who had a lot of friends with whom many memories were shared. He leaves to mourn his sister Margaret Howard; daughters, Valerie (Graham) Price and Ardith (Dave) Springer; grandchildren, Barbara (Bob) Lewis, Janet Price, Darren Springer, Vicki Springer (Jeff Moen); twin great-grandsons Dylan and Caelan Lewis; in-laws Art and Polly Hammersley, Ralph and Mildred Schneider, Linda Hammersley, Winnie and Steve Wachko and Kay and Dick Haug; his Aunt Dorothy Robinson along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was predeceased by his wife Joyce; his parents Ralph and Tillie Kerntoph; his father and mother-in-law Albert and Florence Hammersley; sister and brother-in-law Jack and Doreen Heinz; brother-in-law Ernie Hammersley; brother-in-law Ed Howard and niece Karla Heinz. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. Interment to follow in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
