HERBERT WILLIAM SLATER It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Herbert William Slater on April 19, 2008, at the age of 57. Herb will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Debbie; children, Michael (Christine), Melanie (Paul), and Megan (Vic); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tyson and Justin, Joshua and Ryland, Felicia, Mackadie and Hunter; mother, Rose; father and mother in-law, Brian and Fran; brothers, Ken (Barb), Garry (Shirley), Derrick (Rowena); many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Herb was predeceased by his father William, grandparents, brother-in-law Dave, and numerous Aunts and Uncles. Herb was born in Winnipeg on August 23, 1950. He spent a lot of his childhood visiting the farm with his Granny and Grandpa Cherpako and family. Herb joined the Royal Canadian Navy in October of 1967 with which he travelled all over the world and loved to tell tales of his experiences. In July of 1974 Herb met the love of his life, Debbie, and they were soon married. Together they had their three children. Herb loved to have his family around. He enjoyed and loved his grandchildren and spoiled them endlessly. Herb worked for the City of Winnipeg for 27 years as a Communications Technician where he met and made many long lasting friends. Herb loved to golf and fish and would offer his expertise on these or any other subject that may have come up. Herb retired in 2005 and realized his dream of buying property in the Winnipeg Beach area and starting a market garden. Unfortunately this dream was cut all too short. A service of remembrance is being held on Friday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home with Reverend Janet Walker officiating. Entombment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 in Herbert's memory. Grandfather's Creed A Grandfather's love is a special thing, And in each family he's more than a King. He cares for all and has earned the right To spoil each Grandchild that comes into sight; That's why it's his doorbell they love to ring. A Grandfather's love is a special thing. We love you and you will never be forgotten.
