Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA MAXWELL (FREESON) EASTWOOD Suddenly, yet peacefully, our cherished mother passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2008. Barb is survived by daughters Diane Rice (Kevin) and Karen Hurst (Gordon); and son Mark (Susan). Grandmother to Andrew, Genevieve, Stephen, Jenna, Matthew, Mitchell, Holly, Kelsey and Katie and great-grandmother to Adrian. Barb was born on April 6, 1927 in Hanover, ON and spent much of her youth in small towns, due to her father's occupation. She graduated as an RN from the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, in 1949 and moved to Winnipeg shortly thereafter, where she was the Head Nurse in the OR at Children's Hospital. Mom then met the love of her life, her soul mate, Jim, whom she married in 1953. She gave up her nursing career to start a family, but did return to the profession briefly in the early 1970s. Mom and Dad spent as much time together as they could. Their favorite destinations were Minaki in the summer and Palm Springs during the winter months. There were many other travel highlights as well. Mom was quite an athlete in her younger days, with tennis, badminton, and skiing keeping her fit. Swimming with her buddies at the Winter Club continued right up until her passing. The last three months of Mom's life were very difficult and challenging due to the passing of her beloved Jim. All she wanted was to be with him and we are comforted in knowing that they are together again, forever. A celebration of Mom's life will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, the Reverend Dr. Gordon Taylor presiding.
