MARIE BADZ Peacefully, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Marie Badz, surrounded by her family, passed away on April 23, 2008 at the age of 67. Leaving behind her devoted husband John, who spent every moment with her during her fight against this disease; two loving children: daughter Cathy, and son Jason; grandchildren, Dustyn, Breanne and her youngest Lauren; son-in-law Jamie; five brothers and sisters, Anna (Oliver), Arthur (Pat), Lawrence (Rose), Joyce (Tony), Robert (Claudia), as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her Mom and Dad, Alice and Alexander Guiboche. Marie was born on January 23, 1941. She attended high school at Andrew Minarsky, leaving early to pursue a career to help out her family. She worked for a short time before marrying the man of her dreams, John Badz on May 27, 1961. Marie gave up her career to become a full time wife. A few years later her first child was born, Cathy and four years later a son, Jason. Marie was the kind of person who put everyone else before herself. She was a real lady and you would never hear profanity come from her mouth. She was a devoted Christian and belonged to Atlantic Garden City United Church, where she attended services regularly. She had many outside interests and took many courses in Spanish, Esthetics, Dance, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Interior Design. She was very active in the garden tending her flowerbeds at home and at the lake. She spent lots of time working out at the Seven Oaks Wellness Centre. Marie did many things in her spare time that made her happy, needlepoint, crocheting, ceramics and reading. She was a fabulous cook and took pride in her culinary arts. Although she was born of English and French decent, she became fluent in Ukrainian cuisine. Everyone has a happy place and for Marie it was Lot 20 Pinawa Bay. Marie and John were some of the first to settle and concur this cottage wilderness. Marie and John started to build their paradise escape before they were married. Marie would stay with a chaperone, Mrs. Birch. After they were married, the cabin really became a family paradise. It is here that they spent ninety percent of their summers. She loved it here so much that she wanted some of her ashes left there so she could watch her family enjoying what they had built. Family came first for Marie. She loved and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was the kind of Grandmother that you would read about in children's books, always interested in what they were doing, involved in all their activities, always there for them. Marie was always giving and thinking of others. Even as her disease progressed, she still donated time to charities, like the Church fundraising bazaar that she would attend and work even though she was ill. Marie loved life, she was gentle and giving; traits that she has passed on to her grandchildren. Marie touched a great many people in her short 67 years. She will be missed by all. We love you Mom, Baba. Rest in Peace. Cremation has taken place and a Service to celebrate Marie's life will be held at Atlantic Garden City United Church, 725 Atlantic Ave., Monday, April 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Special thank you from the family to the staff, nurses and doctors at the St. Boniface Hospital, 6A South and 8th Floor Palliative Care, who so caringly looked after her in her last days. Flowers gratefully declined.
