NICK LACKO April 19, 1920 - April 26, 2008 Peacefully, with family by his side, Nick passed away on April 26, 2008 at the age of 88. Nick will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Pearl (nee Rychlicki) and two sons, Larry (wife Loral, Justin, Evan) and Wayne (wife Ramona, Nicholas, Matthew, Christian). He will be sadly missed by his brothers; Sam Lacho and Andy (Adele) Lacko and sisters; Anne Pongoski, and Lena Ribachuk as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parent,s Peter and Mary and brothers, John and Mike. Nick was born on the family homestead in the New Valley Community located near Arborg in the Manitoba Interlake Region. He was the middle sibling of seven children. Nick served overseas in the Canadian Army with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. On November 4, 1950 Nick married Pearl Rychlicki. Together they raised a family, made a home and shared 57 good years of marriage. Nick worked for many years in construction as a journeyman finishing carpenter. He was good with his hands and took pride in his workmanship. Dad loved to garden and sharing the fruits of his labor, especially his prized tomatoes and making his specialty dill pickles. Dad was kind, gentle, generous and caring. He truly enjoyed the company of his friends. Family meant everything to him. He was especially proud of his five grandsons and they in turn loved their Gigo. He always looked forward to seeing them and sharing stories and laughter around the supper table. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff on 3 East at Riverview Health Center for their kindness and compassionate care of Dad. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 965 Boyd Avenue on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be his five grandson, Justin, Nicholas, Matthew, Evan and Christian and niece Carolyn Huebner. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad's name may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 Vichnaya Pamyat Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
