ANDRIJ SLUZAR It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrij Sluzar, beloved husband of Maria, on Friday, April 25, 2008 at Health Sciences Center at the age of 82 years. Andrij was born on May 25, 1925 in the village of Dubrawka, Western Ukraine. Prior to the end of the Second World War, destiny brought Andrij and his two brothers to Western Europe. In 1948, he was sponsored to Canada by his cousin, the late Maria Strilchuk. In 1971, Andrij married Maria Stachiw. They became members of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral and other Ukrainian cultural organizations. Later, Andrij and Maria sponsored daughter Tatiana, son-in-law Wasyl Katchanovski and their two sons Ihor and Petro, to Canada. As the family grew, so did a close bond between them. Andrij derived much joy from the warm relationship he had with the Katchanovskis. Andrij and Maria were fortunate to visit relatives in Ukraine several times. Andrij will be mourned by his loving wife, Maria; as well as daughter Tatiana (Wasyl) Katchanovski and their sons, Ihor (Natalia) and Petro (Anna); great-grandchildren, Oksana, Wasylko and Olia; brother Rev. Wolodymyr (Dobr. Halyna) of Winnipeg; sisters Tekla and Wawara in Ukraine; as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Ukraine.
