WARD DAVID ABBOTT After a long and desperate fight, I succumbed to cancer. I never wanted to be a statistic; I just wanted to be the person who fought the best he could. I was only 43 years old. Without the love and support of my cherished wife and loving family, I know that I couldn't have gotten this far. I would like to thank my many doctors who I have much respect for: Dr. Ralph Wong, Dr. Joel Gingerich, Dr. Tom Hack, Dr. Ted St. Godard, Dr. Karen Moran de Muller, and Dr. Julio Pintin. A heartfelt thanks to all the nurses at Cancer Care St. Boniface for their care and compassion during my time in hospital and a special thank you to my palliative home nurse Norma for her kindness throughout my stay at home. I would also like to acknowledge Aubrey Hemminger for his spiritual care and guidance throughout this two year journey. I feel that I have grown with Laurie emotionally and that our relationship despite the challenges was stronger for it. It was the simple things that made me happy: time with our friends, time with our dogs, having a good laugh (sometimes at my expense), getaways to Thunder Bay with family and having good health my last year to travel the world. I had such great in-laws and my times in Thunder Bay are some of my best memories. One of the highlights of my last year was spending time with my nephew Braeden and finally meeting my namesake Logan. It is with great sadness I leave behind my wife Laurie, our kids Brodie, Biscuit and Mimi, mother Helen Abbott, sister and brother-in-law Laura and Marty Way (nephews Braeden and Logan), mother and father-in-law Lorne and Pam MacDonald and my brother-in-law Sean MacDonald. I also have an extended family on Laurie's side in Thunder Bay that I will miss immensely. It's hard to express how you want to be remembered, but if you could find a way to make it to my life celebration and reception I'm sure there will be lots of good stories to be shared. The service will be held at The Assiniboine Park Conservatory on Saturday May 3, 2008 starting at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, I ask that donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or CancerCare Manitoba, ON 109-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
