ALICE BILLSON (MOAN) May 2, 1922 - April 7, 2008 After 10 years of living with Alzheimer's Disease, our mother moved on to a place of peace on Monday, April 7, 2008. Dearest mother and mother-in-law to Karen (Steve), Bruce (Erin) and Lori; gentle and kind grandmother to Erin, David, Britt and Olivia and loving lifetime partner to her husband of 60 years, Harold (deceased September 2006). Alice leaves behind her brother John and sister Evelyn. She is predeceased by her siblings, Ella, Ole, Andrew, Mona, Thelma, Dorothy, Olaf and Lil. She is fondly remembered by a large number of nieces and nephews in Canada, the U.S.A., Norway and Sweden. Born to Norwegian immigrant parents, Tarold and Anna Moan, Alice was raised in the Interlake District near Inwood, Manitoba. As a young woman she made her way to Winnipeg to seek her way in the world - and married Harold in 1944. They established their family home of more than 40 years in Winnipeg's suburban Charleswood. Alice was a homemaker extraordinaire famed throughout the community and in her extended family for her culinary skills, deftness with a sewing machine and home decorating acumen. As her children matured she worked outside the home as a cook for several Scandinavian catering services. Eventually she established her own cake decorating business and domestic cleaning service. She and Harold were an active team in the Charleswood community - always available to volunteer their services to individuals, groups and organizations. Her more senior years were focused on spending time with the children and grandchildren and traveling with Harold. For the last five years she has been in care at Goldenwest Centennial lodge. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the lodge for their gentle and attentive caring of Mum. A special thanks to Margitta Hayda, compassionate companion to Mum these last few years. Also thanks to Joanne Cummings whose listening ear and kind support has been substantive to all of us as we progressed through Mum's journey and the loss of Harold. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that remembrances be made in Alice's name to the Canadian Alzheimer's Society, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 or Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Rd., Winnipeg MB, R3C 4G2. A private interment for immediate family will be held following cremation. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715
