MADELINE VERONICA VOSS (nee BAUMLER) July 10, 1913 - January 31, 2008 This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad therein. Psalm 118:24 Madeline Veronica, better known by her family and friends as Nanie', was the seventh of 10 children in the Baumler family. Her brothers and sisters were Joseph, Adolph, Emily, William, Angela, Clara, (Madeline), Maria, Ronald and Ernest. Madeline was born at home on St. John's Avenue on July 10, 1913. Her father Joseph came to Canada in June, 1910, followed a year later by Nanie's mother Eva Barbara (Priess), from Koenigsburgh. She arrived with her children in May of 1911. Nanie grew up in the North End of Winnipeg and attended St. Joseph School of which she had so many fond memories. As a teenager she lived with her family at 305 Polson Avenue. She married James Louis Voss on October 22, 1935. James was a CNR police constable from 1941 to 1974. He passed away on April 18, 1974. Nanie loved to curl and she did so for many years at the Thistle Curling Club in the West End. Nanie along with Jim raised their two boys at 634 Minto Street; Richard James and Rodney Jon. Another son Donald died at a very early age. Nanie's favourite bit of advice for everyone right up to her last days was to take one day at a time and to enjoy every one of them'. Nanie loved to vacation with the boys at Grand Beach and work in her garden on the hot summer days. She loved little children and they were attracted to her because she always had time for them and would play with them for hours on end. All her grandchildren and friends' children can attest to this. Her grandchildren, all grown up now will sadly miss her - James, Jon, Charis, Benjamin and Sarah (Rod and Aleta), Amy Joy and Jonathan Earl (Richard and BevAnn) and Warren and Eric. Nanie had three great-grandchildren as well, Jobe Sol and Grace (Aaron and Charis) and Sage Love Madeline (Amy Joy and Donovin) who was born miraculously just at the same time Nanie passed away on January 31. Nanie had many, many friends and was a mother to more than her natural offspring. Her deeds were filled with love and sustaining warmth' (Sue and Bernie) and this love we believe reflects the love of her Creator and continues to be lived out in the lives of her children, grandchildren and all those who were touched by her life. I think that we will never lose the presence of the other within us, once formed it becomes part of our own fabric . (Brother Thomas - Celebrate the Days) The family would like to especially thank the nurses and caregivers at Tuxedo Villa for their love and dedicated work in caring for our mother. There will be a memorial service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations maybe made to charity of choice.
