JOSEPH ZACHAR September 19, 1941 April 30, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Zachar. On April 30, with family at his side, our much loved dad, grandpa, brother, and friend passed on at the Beausejour Hospital. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his children, Derek (Carissa) and Wendy Wong (Brent), his pride and joy - grandson Jonah ( little Joe ), brother Steve (Annette), sisters, Anne Hildebrandt, Irene Zachar, Mary Szalai (Frank), and sisters-in-law, Anne Zachar, Jan Buchanan (Dave), Tannis Recksiedler (Nelson), parents-in-law, Harry and Velma Briese, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was born in Lettelier, MB. His parents immigrated from Slovakia and moved the family several times before settling on their riverfront farm in St. Ouens. After adventuring through much of Western Canada, Joe took over the family farm where he resided until his passing. Along with farming, Joker worked as a heavy duty mechanic with the Department of Highways in Beausejour for over 30 years. Dad was a devoted family man who loved the outdoors. His interests included fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, relaxing at Bird Lake, and building world-class toboggan runs and snow forts for his children. He was known for his famous smoked sucker fish that he caught in the creek by the Zachar Bridge. In his free time he could be found in his shop tinkering and creating his latest and greatest invention. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Apolonia Zachar, brothers, Anthony, Fred, John, and brother-in-law Ernie Hildebrandt. Cremation has taken place and a service to commemorate his life will be held at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Avenue E., Beausejour on Tuesday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m. A private family graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shine the Light Ministries, 522 de la Morenie Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2Z5.
