Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOANNE PETERSEN (nee MORRISSEAU) June 7, 1932 - April 30, 2008 Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep soon after visiting with her sons Vern and Dwayne and her daughter Glenda. Mom was predeceased by her life long partner and husband Sid Petersen on August 28, 2001. Her mother and father-in-law Agnes and Henry Petersen, brothers-in-law Sandy and Shelly Petersen, also her beloved son Hubert Fontaine, her parents John Baptiste Morrisseau and Annie Gerrard, her sister Carole, and brother Lloyd. Mom left Sagkeeng when she was very young. She faced many life challenges as a residential school survivor with integrity and grace. Mom was fiery and feisty with a gentle spirit. Quick tempered as she was forgiving. She loved to speed in her car and wear her hats. We have many stories and will remember our many spontaneous fun-loving times. She loved to sing and to tease people. She possessed an unquestionable strength; these were her gifts to us. She also had a gift for design and sewing and enjoyed preparing great meals for family and friends. We say Meewetch to the Creator for our mother. Our hearts will always remember her beautiful and unforgettable laughter. Mom is survived by her children Marilyn (Marvin), Audrey, Glenda (Bill), Vern, Dwayne (Jennifer); sisters, Rita, Helena, Julie, and Dianna along with her special sister Norah Fontaine (Spence) and her sister-in-law Connie (Bill) Boyer. Joanne is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren Damon, Polly , Jasmine (Jo-Jo), Marlene (Mars Bar), Robbie, Bryan, Grant, Cody, Cory, Devin, and favourite granddaughter Karla, and seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to thank the staff at Park Manor Personal Care Home for taking care of mom. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
