ERNIE MARCISCHUK After a courageous battle with cancer, Ernie peacefully fell asleep in the Lord's arms on Monday, May 5, 2008 at Riverview Health Center, surrounded by love of his family. Ernie was born on August 15, 1931 in Horod, MB, grew up in the Sandy Lake area working on the family farm. Life was not easy, so Ernie found work at various camps and quickly developed a passion for cooking and continued working at various hotels and restaurants. In 1956, Ernie met the love of his life, Helen, were married in 1958 and later blessed with two daughters. In 1965, Ernie and Helen worked together and became owners of an Elmwood landmark, Hel-Ern Restaurant, which they successfully ran for 28 years; retiring in 1993. Ernie was a very active member of Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Brotherhood, and Knights of Columbus, where he continued to volunteer. Ernie enjoyed his retirement and had a favourite pastime of being a member of the Wellness Institute. No matter where Ernie went he always found someone he knew and developed many friendships. Remaining to forever cherish Ernie's memory is his loving wife Helen and two daughters, Sharon (Ihor Holinka) of Edmonton, Wendy (Myron Semegen) and six grandchildren, Ulana, Stephen, Christina, Michael, Alexander and Laryssa. He also leaves to mourn sisters, brothers, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services will be held at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Ave. and Watt St., with Father Michael Winn officiating. Prayers will be sung on Thursday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be sung on Friday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, with interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Riverview Health Centre. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be, So He closed His arms around you And whispered Come to Me . You didn't deserve what you went through So He took you home to rest, God's garden must be beautiful For he only takes the best. Ever remembered ... ever loved.
