SOLRUN OLAVIA EYOLFSON It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our cherished Mother, Amma, and Láng Amma, Solla Eyolfson at the Arborg Hospital on May 3, 2008. She was born September 24, 1923 in Geysir, Manitoba to Ingibjorg and Valdimar Sigvaldason. Solla was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Steini, infant brother Marino Sigvaldi, and sister Margaret. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Joan (Ahmad) and Melvyn (Audrey) her grandchildren Dorgam (Giselle), Kamal, Stephanie, Jeanette, Daniel , Kendra and great-grandchild Gabriel. She will be sadly missed by her siblings: Ingimar (Mae), Emily, Kristin (Kristjan), Barney (Ethel), Marino (Colleen), Lawrence (Lillian), as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Solla was the eldest of eight children and her first language was Icelandic. She attended Geysir School, followed by a dressmaking course in Winnipeg. In 1944 she married Sigurstein (Steini) Eyolfson. They purchased a farm which they worked in the summer, fishing Lake Winnipeg in the winter. Together they built their home in 1947. Solla worked steadfastly with farming and homemaking activities. Family and friends were of utmost importance to Solla. She nurtured many children besides her own. No occasion passed without a thoughtful card from Solla. The kitchen was always the centre of activity, with the coffee pot always on, feeding family, friends, and hired help. Solla was very community minded, participating with the Geysir Ladies Aid, and Church and Icelandic choirs. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and passed these values on to her children and grandchildren. She was respected as a local historian, an important member of the Geysir book committee, an active participant in the Agricultural Society, and a leader in the 4-H sewing club. She was recognized for her sense of humor, and her ability to deal with difficult situations and life's challenges. Mom had many hobbies including sewing, crocheting, knitting, painting, quilting, and piano playing. She had a passion for gardening and her flowers gave joy to many. Solla enjoyed skating on the river, playing baseball and curling. She loved collecting photos of family and friends, sharing their stories with visitors. Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of those involved with Solla's care including; home care workers and Arborg Personal Care Home and Hospital staff, for their exceptional care, kindness and love. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 9, 2008 at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Arborg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Solla can be made to The Parkinson Society Manitoba, Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
