MARIE MAY WILSON (nee SUMNER) May 13, 1932 - May 4, 2008 We have lost a loving partner, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. With sadness we said good-bye to Marie at the Victoria Hospital just nine days short of her 76th birthday. Marie was born in Neepawa to Ida and John Sumner and grew up the oldest of eight children. She learned many of her life skills growing up on the family farm. Her first job took her to Russell where she met her future husband, Dave. They were married on November 4, 1954 and took up residence in Charleswood. She did childcare for a neighbour, had a catering business which allowed her to express her creativity through cake decoration, and worked for many years at a local pharmacy in Charleswood. It was there that she developed many of her lifelong friendships. Upon retiring she and her life partner, Bill moved to their present home in White Ridge. Marie was a long time member of the Wednesday Ladies Golf Club in Tuxedo. In winter she belonged to a 10 pin bowling league. She also enjoyed curling events and looked forward to attending bonspiels. She was never idle and her energy was contagious. Her greatest pleasures were those moments spent with her family and many friends, always choosing to visit people versus destinations. Her wisdom and intuition will always be valuable to those whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her husband Dave, brothers-in-law Bill de Balinhard, Don Harstine and Frank Kuharski. She is survived by her loving partner, Bill Biener, her children, Karl (Linda) of Edmonton, AB, Roberta Calvez of Christina Lake, B.C., Dwight (Cindy) of Calgary, AB, Rauly (Kristine) of Aukland N.Z., grandchildren Stryker, Beau, and Brandie Calvez, Dean Wilson and Kim Irving, brothers Bill (Elizabeth), Robert (Deanna) and Elviss (Connie) of Neepawa, sisters Louise Kuharski of Winnipeg, Edythe Harstine of Dewey AZ., Norma de Balinhard of Nelson B.C., Marcia (Bruce) Jackson of Saskatoon SK., brother-in-law Bud (Doris) Wilson of Winnipeg. She will be greatly missed. As per Marie's request, cremation has taken place. Also, by her request, there will be no formal service. The family will host a Celebration of her life on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Ave. Donations in her memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Here I sit thinking of my Aunt Marie and wishing I could be there with you all. All of my thoughts are with the family today. She was a wonderful person and a terrific aunt but most of all she had beauty in her heart and she shared that with everyone. The many wonderful memories that I will keep of her - the house in Charleswood, her visits here to Devon and her kindness to my family. Mom and Dad will miss her terribly but will also keep the wonderful memories of her with them in their hearts. - Posted by: Barb Croft(nee Wilson) (Family) on: May 07, 2008

  • May 06, 2008 Relationship: Family Message: What a wonderful friend I have lost! Marie was truly a joy to be with, always making anyone feel welcome in her home. I will miss the countless hours we spent together over the kitchen table playing cribbage and sharing thoughts together. Marie would always gently chide me when I went on a losing streak, which happened more than I care to recollect. Marie, I will always remember you with fondness and my heart goes out to all the family that you always so glowingly spoke about, your loving friend, Al Calvez - Posted by: Al Calvez (Family) on: May 06, 2008
